BitTorrent sucks

Sunday 27 January 2008 - Filed under Journal + Video

I was pissed that Weeds Season 3 wasn’t on iTunes yet so I ended up grabbing a few episodes off of BitTorrent. It worked fairly well for a while. Now I am getting more and more annoyed by it. I would much, much, much, much, much rather pay $1.99 for an episode of Weeds than sit around for months waiting for some tracker to actually track the god damn torrent they are supposedly tracking. In fact, everything in my BitTorrent list I would gladly pay for if I could. To me, the only valid reason to pirate content is convenience. If media companies can’t figure out how to get us their content conveniently, they create demand for things like BitTorrent.

In the case of Weeds I went to the Weeds site, the Showtime site, I googled and I clicked and there was exactly zero (0) ways for me to legitimately buy an episode of Weeds (short of subscribing to a year’s worth of a channel on cable that I don’t want).

But, in the end, BitTorrent fails the convenience test miserably as well. You can find torrents for everything but almost none of them work.

I’ll never understand businesses that put barriers between their customers and their products.
