Un-Star Party

I have a star party at my observatory every year. I describe is as much more “party” than “star”. We have a keg of beer and a bar and a bonfire and grill up food and have a good time. I open my observatory and show people stuff. I never look through my telescopes with my eyes anymore, so the annual Starhouse Starparty is the only time that I look through my scopes. I was psyched this year because I have my new scope and I haven’t really looked through it much. This was the 6th year of the star party and the first few years it was clear. This year, and last year, if I recall correctly, were cloudy. This year it was quite cold, our first cold snap of the year. (Not cold cold, but not summery, let’s say).  I showed people my observatory and setup but we didn’t really get a look at anything, which was a bit of a bummer. Still, it was a great party. A lot of people showed up and we had a blast. More people put up tents and stayed the night, too, so we had a nice breakfast hang in the morning. With my star party, the stars are optional, but I sure hope next year we get a clear night.
