Serious Addiction

That’s how much battery life I have left. I FORGOT TO BRING MY POWER CORD TO MY OBSERVATORY! You don’t know how much this bums me out.

I don’t think it took 3 minutes to write that sentence. I think the cold is going to make my battery last even less long. It’s pretty cold, they are saying –5F tonight in Minneapolis which probably means –10F out here.

I don’t think that took 3 minutes either.

Cool, got 3 minutes back!

OK, I’ll stop the “battery remaining” play by play. I was thinking back to the “old days” when I first started coming out here. I had no Internet connection and would sit in my car or in my observatory plunking on my computer. When it got super cold I’d start my car. Then I’d doze in my car as it got late.

Now, thanks to my gracious hosts, I have a little out-building with a wood burning stove that I sit in. I also have wireless Internet. I lay down a therm-a-rest and a sleeping bag when I want to sleep. The wood fire gets the place plenty warm, although it takes a while on a night like tonight.

I can live without the Internet, barely. I can’t live without my computer. I have tons of shit going on on this thing, writing papers, chatting with people, doing work, making videos, my whole photo library, a bunch of original music, tons of astronomy data and programs...

Just like you. If you are like me, we LIVE on these things.

In one hour I will not have a computer and won’t have shit to do for 4 hours.

Fucking god damn.
