New Variable Stars

One of the things I like to do is help to characterize new variable stars. This involves first finding suspected variables and then getting a lot of data on them. With some stars it is obvious very quickly what type of star it is but with others you need to stick with them for a long time.

Two of the very first variable stars that I published data on were recently given names by the
General Catalog of Variable Stars (GCVS). One was previously known as GSC 279-321 and is now known as PS Vir. The other was a suspected variable called NSV 10892 which is now known by the slightly more cumbersome V2612 Oph. These were published recently in The 78th Name-List of Variable Stars. The fact that these stars were given names in the GCVS is not a big deal. Still, it is nice to see my work, no matter how humble, referenced in the professional literature.
